A ring pessary without support, also called an open ring pessary or pessary ring without support, is a soft, flexible silicone ring that holds up the uterus and vaginal walls to manage mild to moderate pelvic organ prolapse, without surgery. This open-ring design has no center membrane, so it folds easily to put in and take out. Available in sizes 0–9 (44–102 mm), FDA 510(k) cleared, no prescription needed. Recommended by OB-GYN clinics to their patients. Made in USA and ships from California.

Pessaries should be fitted and used under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional. This page is educational information about SciMed products, not medical advice. If you are unsure of your size or type, ask your clinician or start with a fitting pack.

Ships in a plain outer box — sender reads "SciMed" only, no product name on the label.

Is the ring pessary without support right for you?
The open ring is the usual first choice for:
  • ✓ Stage I-II uterine or vaginal vault prolapse
  • ✓ Prolapse without cystocele (bladder drop) or SUI (stress incontinence)
  • ✓ Patients who want to wear during intercourse

Why Choose a Ring Pessary Without Support

As a silicone ring pessary for prolapse, the open-ring (without-support) configuration is the standard first-line ring pessary for patients without anterior compartment prolapse. The simple ring design folds easily for self-insertion and removal, is generally well tolerated for long-term daily wear, and can typically be worn during intercourse without removal, unlike the with-support membrane design.

Ring Pessary Care & Use Guide

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an open ring pessary?

An open ring pessary is a ring pessary without support. It is a plain, flexible silicone ring with no center membrane. It sits inside the vagina and holds up the uterus and vaginal walls.

Is a pessary ring without support right for my prolapse?

It is usually the first choice for mild to moderate uterine or vaginal vault prolapse when there is no bladder drop (cystocele) or stress incontinence. If you have those, the ring pessary with support may suit you better. Ask your doctor if you are not sure.

Do I need a prescription?

No. A pessary is an FDA Class II device. We recommend that initial sizing be performed by a qualified provider.

What's the difference between Without Support and With Support?

The without-support (open ring) is the standard first-line ring pessary for prolapse alone. The with-support version adds an integrated membrane for cystocele/SUI.

Can I wear the pessary during sex?

Yes, for most patients the open-ring can be worn during intercourse without removal.

How do I know which size to order?

If your doctor gave you a size, order that size. Otherwise see our ring pessary size guide. If unsure, order the 3-size right-size pack.

Do I need a Storage Case?

Strongly recommended for daily-wear patients. Silicone pessaries need clean, dry storage between wears to help prevent bacterial buildup. Add to cart above for $9.99 (vs $19.99 standalone).

Why sizes 0–9?

Size 9 (102 mm) is essential for patients with significantly enlarged vaginal vault, post-childbirth, post-hysterectomy, advanced prolapse.

Is the pessary FDA-cleared?

Yes. FDA 510(k) cleared as Class II under FDA Product Code HHW.

Is the pessary HSA/FSA eligible?

Yes. HCPCS code A4562. SciMed is not a Medicare-enrolled DME supplier, so purchases from SciMed are not reimbursed by traditional Medicare.

What if it doesn't fit?

Return the sealed, unopened pack within 30 days for a refund (return postage is paid by you), then order the right size. Opened pessaries cannot be returned, for hygiene reasons.

Can I put it in and take it out myself?

Yes. Ring pessaries are designed for self-management. Most patients learn how during their first fitting visit. See our pessary guide for help.

How do I clean my pessary?

Wash it with warm water and mild, unscented soap. Do not use alcohol, petroleum-based products or harsh disinfectants. Store it clean and dry.

How much is shipping and how fast?

US orders under $99 ship by USPS for a flat $4.99. Orders of $99 or more ship free by USPS. Orders ship from California.

Do you offer volume discounts?

Yes. Automatic discounts at checkout: buy 2+ pessaries save 5%, buy 3+ save 10%, buy 4+ save 15%. Applies to any combination of pessary products in your cart. No code needed.

If at first you do not succeed, try try again.

No pessary works as good as the real thing. But this SciMed ring pessary is as close as I have come for my uterine prolapse. The last few years I have had at least a dozen pessaries and multiple doctor appointments and fittings of various sizes and shapes and this has been the best. If you do not want surgery and have had difficulty getting a suitable pessary, try here before giving up. I have finally found one here that does not cause me pain, irritation, tearing, and interfere with bodily functions. It is more flexible/pliable than other rings I have had. It is key to know your correct size which you may have learned through trial and error or doctor visits. I find the ring without support is best for me but if you also have bladder prolapse the ring with support may be your choice. It is a process. But I am glad I finally found mine here. Hope this helps for those in my boat.

Correction, an original order

The enclosed first pry was not to my exception due to a very different texture of plastic. The gentleman went and found the correct one that I use regularly and replaced it with my current one and charged me five dollars for shipping. I enjoyed how this was handled and the communication.
